Converters of corrosion products (rust ) Are specially designed compounds that convert corrosion products (rust) into a durable protective film directly on the treated surface. Corrosion product converters can be in the form of suspensions, emulsions or solutions. When applied to a metal surface, a film is formed with a high protective ability and good adhesion to the substrate. Most often, it serves as an intermediate layer between the metal and the main paintwork.
Very often, converters of corrosion products are also called "rust modifier" or "rust converter".
Rust converters are used to protect against corrosion of metal structures made of low alloy or carbon steels. In addition, the layer of rust (corrosion products) should not exceed 100 microns.
Most modern modifiers of corrosion products include phosphoric acid, but there are some that are based on tannin, oxycarboxylic polybasic acids, etc. (even cement!).
Rust converters based on film-forming substances are widely used. Such compositions are also called transforming primers, i.e. primer corrosion converters (CPC).
