N-Methylpyrrolidone (NMP) is used as a solvent in the production of technical polymers and coating resins.
It is a liquid with a high boiling point, polar aproticity and low viscosity. NMP is readily soluble in many organic and inorganic compounds, miscible with water at any temperature and has high chemical and thermal stability.
The polarity and low surface tension of NMP allow it to be used as a cleaning agent and paint thinner.
NMP is completely miscible with water, alcohols, ethers, ketones, aromatic and chlorinated hydrocarbons, other aprotic solvents and vegetable oils, as a rule, it is used as a functional solvent for various types of plastics, resins, waxes and paints.
NMP is a strong solvent with low volatility, used in various kinds of chemicals, including in the petrochemical industry. It is used as a means of extraction in various industrial processes, because similar to unsaturated and aromatic hydrocarbons, for example in butadiene recovery, BTX extraction, lube oil refining.
