Sodium hypophosphite is an inorganic compound, salt of an alkali metal sodium and hypophosphorous acid with the formula Na (PH2O2)
Colorless crystals, readily soluble in water, forms a crystalline hydrate. The solution is neutral. It dissolves in ethanol, poorly dissolves in liquid ammonia.
It is used as a reducing agent in the application of Ni, Co, Sn coatings on metals and plastics, an antioxidant (prevents discoloration of alkyd resins during their production), a PVC and polyurethane stabilizer, reagent for photometric determination of As (III) and Sb (III), etc.
