Selenite of sodium 2842901000
Sodium selenite is used in laboratory practice, pharmaceuticals, veterinary medicine, as a microadditive for mixed feed, etc.
In addition to glutathione peroxidase, selenium is an integral part of other selenoproteins, each of which differs in biological functions. The body contains from 30 to 100 selenoproteins. Key selenoproteins include selenoprotein W. Loss of selenoprotein W is associated with the development of white muscle disease in sheep, increased fluid loss during storage of pork and ascites in broilers. It also has antioxidant properties. Another selenoprotein is a structural component of the sperm capsule, i.e. this protein is the main component of sperm.
Sodium selenite regulates the permeability of cell membranes, prevents myopathies of the stomach and heart, fibrous degeneration of the pancreas. It is found in trace amounts in almost all animal tissues, excluding adipose tissue. The synergists of selenium are vitamin E and the antioxidant santoquin, because they enhance the synthesis of glutathione peroxide in the body, increase the concentration of the enzyme in the blood plasma. Increased doses of vitamin B1 improve the absorption of selenium and delay its release from the body. Selenium antagonists are lead (Pb) and mercury (Hg). Selenium itself can serve as an antidote for mercury and lead poisoning.
