Feed copper oxide
Oxide copper (I) is used as a pigment for coloring glass, ceramics, glazes; as a component of paints that protect the underwater part of the vessel from fouling; as a fungicide.
It has semiconducting properties, used in copper oxide valves.
Copper oxide ( I) - moderately toxic substance: LD 50 470 mg / kg (oral for rats). Irritating to eyes, may irritate skin and respiratory tract.
Very toxic to the aquatic environment: LC 50 for Daphnia magna is 0.5 mg / l for 48 hours.
Being in nature
Copper (I) oxide is found in nature in the form of the mineral cuprite (outdated names: red copper ore, glassy copper ore, ruby copper). The color of the mineral is red, brownish red, purplish red or black. Hardness on the Mohs scale 3.5 - 4.
A type of cuprite with elongated filamentary crystals is called chalcotrichite (old name: plush copper ore). The brick-red mixture of cuprite and limonite is called "tile ore"
