Ethyl acetate forms azeotropic mixtures with water (T bale 70.4 ° C, 8.2% water by weight), ethyl alcohol (71.8 ° C and 30.8%), methanol (62.25 ° C and 44.0%), isopropyl alcohol (75.3 ° C and 21.0%), cyclohexane (72.8 ° C and 54.0%), carbon tetrachloride (74.7 ° C and 57.0%).
Ethyl acetate is a moderately polar solvent. It dissolves well cellulose ethers, resin oil varnishes, fats, waxes. Ethyl acetate is an ester of acetic acid and ethyl alcohol and its chemical properties are typical for esters. Easily hydrolyzed to ethanol and acetic acid in an alkaline environment. In an acidic environment, it can be transesterified. The equilibrium shifts to the right in the presence of an excess of substitutional alcohol: CH 3 C (O) OC 2 H < sub> 5 + CH 3 OH ⇄ CH 3 C (O) OCH 3 + C 2 H 5 OH Ethyl acetate has a relatively low toxicity. Its vapors irritate the mucous membranes of the eyes and respiratory tract, when exposed to the skin, it is possible to develop eczema and dermatitis.
