Scope of methylene chloride:
Methylene chloride is used for the manufacture of man-made fibers, films for photography and cinema, plastic, perfumery, rubber and other chemical industries. Serves as an excellent solvent for fats, oils, polymer compositions. Polytetrafluoroethylene, a copolymer of hexafluoropropylene and vinylidene fluoride, does not dissolve with methylene chloride. It dissolves in the light when exposed to sunlight and forms hydrogen chloride; for stabilization, urotropine or triethanolamine is added. methylene chloride is hardly flammable. It is also used as an additive to other diluents to increase the flash point.
Storage of methylene chloride:
Methylene chloride is stored in hermetically sealed metal containers, dispensed in bulk, in metal barrels of 200 liters.
